MAIN ITINERARY
Day 1 - Arrive to San Jose, Costa Rica
Your tour starts in San Josi by being picked up at the airport by our Costa Rican English-speaking representative, transferred to your hotel, and
provided with general information to prepare you for the tour and for your early departure to the Irazz Volcano the next morning. Enjoy your
accommodations at
Gran Hotel Costa Rica.
Meals are not included today.
Day 2 - San Jose, Irazz volcano, and Turrialba Area
After breakfast, your Natural Expeditions guide and driver will join you as you leave San Jose and begin your ascent toward the top of the highest
active volcano in the country. The main crater of the Irazz Volcano is located over 10,000 feet above sea level. During the journey, you will be
able to enjoy the most picturesque scenery of the area. The diverse and abundant crops will give a very clear idea of how positive a volcanic
eruption can be for the land's fertility. On the top of the volcano, your guide will conduct a guided walk to explain the uniqueness of the life zone
known as Paramo and the history of the volcano itself. On your drive down the mountain, enjoy a snack or lunch with a nice view from the
Cartago Valley and Talamanca mountain range. Continue on the route to your accommodations for the evening - the beautiful
Guayabo Lodge.

Day 3 - White-Water Rafting and Tortuguero
After breakfast, you will depart for the Reventazon River for white-water rafting (class III). Rios Tropicales, the most recognized Costa Rican
Rafting Company, will get you to the river and provide first-class service to guide you through the water adventure. After rafting, you will begin
the journey to Tortuguero, one of the most isolated and exotic areas of the country. Enjoy a delicious native lunch and continue through an
extended area of croplands, where pineapples and banana plantations have become very popular. At the end of the bus drive, the ground
transportation will change for a flat bottom boat, which will take you to your accommodations at
Mawamba Lodge,
via the beauty of the Tortuguero canals.
Please note: If the tour has 10 travelers or less, white-water rafting will be moved to the Sarapiqum River on Day 5.

Day 4 - Tortuguero National Park
In the morning, visit the National Park via boat, a place where you will be interacting with all of the different natural wonders of the area simply by
taking a journey through the canals. After the morning tour, you will also have the chance to hike in the rainforest. The afternoon will be dedicated
back on the Tortuguero canals. Or, if you want to have a nice stroll on the beach, the lodge is located just by the Caribbean Sea. This part of the
Costa Rican coastline is not recommended for swimming, but it would be the perfect place to walk and enjoy an interesting mixture of jungle and
ocean view. For the months of July, August, and September, be sure to speak with your guide about a night tour on the beach where you can spy
sea turtles as they make their way out of the ocean and lay eggs in the sand. (

Day 5 - Tortuguero to Fortuna, San Carlos
The adventure will continue on the way to Fortuna, one of the most popular areas in Costa Rica due to its active Arenal Volcano. This peaceful
section of the country will welcome you with nice accommodation at
Magic Mountain Hotel and several unique activities. The location of the hotel
will allow you to enjoy a fantastic view of the eastern flank of the active and impressive neighboring volcano. During the evening, relax at the base
of the Arenal Volcano while you enjoy the warmth of the natural hot springs.

Day 6 - Arenal Volcano Hike and Boat Trip
On day five, you will have the chance to hike on the base of the active volcano. You will go as far as the base of one of the latest eruptions and
get a very good explanation from our local expert. During the evening, a boat trip will lead you into the Arenal Lake, a place that will give you a
chance to observe some of the constant activity from the main active crater of this smoking giant. (

Day 7 - Fortuna to Monteverde
Drive around the Arenal Lake and throughout quaint villages like Tilaran as you make your way up to mountains of Monteverde. At this point, the
ride will offer a nice view from both the Pacific and Caribbean slopes. Arrive to your accommodations at
El Establo Hotel and enjoy the rest of the
day on your own.

Day 8 - Zip lining canopy tour
After a 30-minute drive, you will be transported into one of the most breathtaking places on earth: the cloud forest. Here you will experience how
conservation programs can recover areas from being pasturelands into its beautiful original atmosphere. After seeing the cloud forest from the
ground, you will see the same forest from a different angle, the canopy. Professional staff from this zip-lining location will prepare you for this
unforgettable and unique activity. You can also opt to enjoy the canopy by walking on the hanging brides if zip-lining does not appeal to your
sense of adventure. (

Day 9 - Return to San Josi or Continue on your extension
Option #1: Return to San Jose
Travel south to the Pan-American Highway as you begin the journey back to San Jose. Explore some souvenir stores while returning to the city and finish the day at your hotel.(

After a morning breakfast, catch the shuttle to the airport where you will await your flight back home.

Option #2: Extension to Manuel Antonio
Day 9 - Central Pacific and Manuel Antonio National Park
Say good-bye to your tour guide and travel south to the Pan-American Highway to catch the route to your accommodations, just 10 minutes away from the breathtaking Manuel Antonio National Park. Enjoy the day as you please, for these two days on the Pacific Ocean
are free to have time for yourself. Don't forget to save time to visit the National Park, where you will experience the beauty and wonder of one of
the most natural beaches in the country.

Day 10 - Central Pacific
Take advantage of your last day as you plan activities according to your interests and desires.

Day 11 - Transfer to San Jose
Your ground transportation service will transfer you back to San Jose. By the end of the day, you will be back at

evening in Costa Rica.
