MAIN ITINERARY

Day 1 - Arrive to San Jose, Costa Rica
Welcome to Costa Rica, a place to enjoy the beauty of nature with friendly people and lots of adventures. Your tour starts in San Jose by being picked up at the airport by our Costa Rican English-speaking representative and transferred to your hotel. Our representative will explain about the official meeting to discuss the different aspects of the rest of your trip and to provide you with general information for our early departure to the Irazz volcano area the following morning. Enjoy your accommodations at Gran Hotel Costa Rica.

Day 2 - San Jose to Irazu Volcano
After breakfast, our local expert will lead you toward the Irazu Volcano area, the first in our list of visits and the highest active volcano in the country. During the journey, you will have the chance to enjoy a spectacular view to the Talamanca mountain range, one of the tallest in Costa Rica. After enjoying the beauty of the Paramo forest, you will descend back to San Jose, passing throughout the most productive agricultural region of the country. (Gran Hotel Costa Rica)

Day 3 - From San Jose to Fortuna by Poas Volcano
Say goodbye to the city as you travel to the northern part of the country. Along the way, stop for a very important visit to the Poas Volcano, the most visited volcano in the country. Observe coffee plantations and beautiful trails as you walk through one of the most popular national parks in the country and look into the crater. The cloud forest around the volcano will trap you with its authentic and unique vegetation.

The adventure will continue on the way to Fortuna, one of the most popular regions in Costa Rica due to its active Arenal Volcano. This peaceful section of the country will welcome you with exciting activities and nice accommodations at Magic Mountain Hotel. The location of the hotel will allow you to enjoy a fantastic view of the eastern flank of the active and impressive neighboring volcano.

Day 4 - Fortuna Hike, Hanging Bridges, and Boat Trip
On the fourth day of your adventure, you will have the chance to hike on the base of the active Arenal Volcano. The trail will lead you to the foundation of one of the latest eruptions. While being in the area, the explanation given from our local expert will make you feel more connected with the atmosphere of the latest volcanic activity. After this important visit, explore the rainforest from above as you walk through the hanging bridges. This is the best way to see a different angle of what the locals consider to be a primary forest. During the evening, a boat trip will lead you into the Arenal Lake, a place that will give you a chance to observe some of the constant activity from the main active crater of this smoking giant. Day 5 - Fortuna, Cultural Tour, and Hot Springs
Day 5 provides you with a great opportunity to interact with the locals. Begin your day by visiting La Casona, a Costa Rican landmark resembling the best of old times in the countryside. Share some traditions and make some discoveries with the hosts of this old-fashioned house. You will continue your day by visiting a small school and learning about the educational system of Costa Rica. A group of children will perform folkloric dances that represent the history of the area. The day will go on by visiting a local family and learning about their traditions, customs, and daily way of living. Return to La Casona for a delicious traditional dish prepared on a firewood stove. Enjoy your food as well as the view of the Arenal volcano. During the evening, relax at the base of the Arenal Volcano while you enjoy the warmth of the natural hot springs. (Magic Mountain Hotel)

Day 6 - Fortuna to Rincon de la Vieja Volcano
Drive around Arenal Lake and pass through villages such as Tilaran, Canas, and Liberia, as you make your way up to the mountains of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. While driving from Fortuna to the northwestern region of the country, you will experience the exceptionally irregular topography of Costa Rica. Beginning your journey in the rain forest and passing through the dry forest will give you the opportunity to compare the differences in the beautiful scenery in just a short drive. Spend the rest of the day at Hacienda Guachipelmn, enjoying the panorama of the pasture lands of Guanacaste. In the evening, make yourself comfortable and experience the beauty of a Costa Rican sunset.

Day 7 - Rincon de la Vieja National Park
Enjoy a day trip to Pailas, a trail inside the national park where several small active fumaroles will show some of the differences among active volcanoes. This is the third most visited volcano and will be another natural classroom to learn about the positive and negative aspects of the science known as volcanology. During the afternoon, you will have the chance to enjoy time on your own or take one of the different optional tours offered by Hacienda Guachipelmn.

Day 8 - Rincon de la Vieja to San Jose
Finish your exciting adventure in the Rincsn de la Vieja area by repelling and zip-lining through the canyons and canopy of the rainforest. Feel like Tarzan as you swing across the canyon and see the river far below. Drive back to the capital city of San Jose via the Pan-American Highway. Pass by the city of Puntarenas and return back into the mountain country. Arrive to Gran Hotel Costa Rica and enjoy the evening on your own.

Day 9 - Depart from San Jose, Costa Rica
After a morning breakfast, catch the shuttle to the airport where you will await your flight back home.
